Orban admits that EU is in ‘war psychosis’

(MENAFN) Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has cautioned that the European Union is currently enveloped in what he terms as a "war psychosis" regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Orban argues that this mindset is likely to result in the deployment of Western troops in the region.

In an interview with radio Kossuth on Friday, Orban emphasized that the Western world is rapidly exhausting its options for resolving the conflict between Moscow and Kiev. He dismissed claims that there is no immediate danger of war, asserting that such assertions are deceptive.

Orban pointed out that the prevailing sentiment in Europe indicates a state of "war psychosis," which he believes will inevitably lead to the arrival of military units from Western European countries in Ukraine, albeit preferably not on the front lines.

Despite tensions escalating to critical levels, Orban expressed a glimmer of hope, suggesting that the ongoing European Parliament election might alleviate the crisis to some extent.

Looking ahead, Orban outlined a potential scenario where, if the conflict remains contained within the Russian-Ukrainian front in the coming weeks, a pan-Western, transatlantic peace coalition could be formed, particularly if United States presidential candidate Donald Trump returns to power.

However, Orban stressed that Hungary should abstain from participating in any prospective NATO mission in Ukraine. He warned against Budapest's troops being placed under the command of officers appointed by the United States-led military bloc, cautioning that such a scenario would entail a significant loss of sovereignty for Hungary. Moreover, Orban highlighted that Hungary is already facing economic repercussions due to the ongoing conflict.
