New York, June 6 (Petra) -- UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini Thursday said Israel bombed the UNRWA school in Nuseirat earlier today without warning to the displaced sheltered there or the agency.
According to a statement, Lazzarini said attacking, targeting, or using United Nations buildings for military purposes is a "blatant disregard for international humanitarian law."
At least 35 people were killed in the attack and scores injured after "Israeli forces bombed a school belonging to the UN agency UNRWA in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip, where 6,000 people were seeking refuge."
Lazzarini described the attack as "another horrific day in Gaza," calling for protecting UN staff, buildings and operations.
He added that more than 180 UN buildings have been bombed since the start of the war in Gaza, killing more than 450 refugees.
