Spain To Join S. Africa's Gaza Genocide Case Against Israel In ICJ

MADRID, June 6 (KUNA) -- Spain announced that it will join South Africa's genocide case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague over Israel's occupation brutal war on Gaza, Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said on Thursday.
In a press conference held at the Foreign Ministry in Madrid, Albares said that Spain "is taking this step to resume the peace progress in the Middle East and Gaza," noting the importance of supporting ICJ's precautionary measures.
He added that Spain made this decision given the continuation of the Israeli occupation military operation in Gaza, which led to the destruction of the Palestinian land and infrastructure.
Albares expressed his support for the latest Gaza cease-fire agreement proposed by US President Joe Biden, along with Qatar and Egypt, stressing that his country's sole purpose is an end to the war and the establishment of the two-state solution "since it's the only guarantee for peace for both Palestinian and Israeli entity."
The Spanish top diplomat avoided answering questions about the Gaza genocide and said his country is not taking sides but only wants to support the ICJ. His statement came a week after Spain, along with Ireland and Norway, recognized the state of Palestine.
The aforementioned countries moved to formally recognize a Palestinian state on May 28 in a coordinated effort by the three Western European nations designed to add international pressure on Israel to soften its devastating attacks on Palestinian lands. (end)
