Arab Foreign Ministers Discuss Biden's Ceasefire Proposal

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - The foreign ministers of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt on Monday held a virtual meeting to discuss the mediation efforts led by Egypt, Qatar and the US, which are aimed at securing a durable ceasefire, the release of hostages and detainees, and the appropriate delivery of aid in Gaza.

The Jordanian, UAE and Saudi ministers expressed their support for these initiatives, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

During the meeting, the ministers examined a proposal presented by US President Joe Biden on June 2, outlining steps to achieve these objectives, with the discussions underlining the importance of engaging seriously and positively with Biden's proposal to ensure a durable ceasefire and adequate delivery of aid throughout the Gaza Strip to alleviate the suffering of its residents.

The ministers also called for an immediate cessation of aggression against Gaza, resolution of the ensuing humanitarian crisis, repatriation of displaced persons, complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Gaza, and commencement of reconstruction efforts, as part of a comprehensive plan to implement a two-state solution, in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, with specific timelines and binding guarantees.

The ministers further emphasised that the realisation of a two-state solution, entailing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, living in peace alongside Israel in accordance with international resolutions, is the sole path to regional security and peace.
