Middle Corridor To Support Regional Goals For Connectivity - CPC President

Further support ofprojects such as the Middle Corridor not only will boost politicaland economic relations within the region, but also will supportregional goals for connectivity, said Efgan Nifti, President of theCaspian Policy Center (CPC) during the 8th Trans-Caspian Forum inWashington, D.C., Trend reports.

He noted that the developments witnessed in the Caspian regionin the last 12 months have been remarkable.

These include progress in the development of the MiddleCorridor, ongoing reconciliation steps between Armenia andAzerbaijan, heightened levels of engagement and investment from adiverse array of global donors, the enduring ramifications of thewar in Ukraine, challenges posed by climate crises, mattersconcerning Black Sea security, the ongoing energy transition, andthe increasing significance of critical minerals, added Nifti.

CPC President Nifti highlighted that Russian trade routes arehampered by sanctions while maritime trade is constricted byhostilities in the Middle East.

"The need for diversification of trade routes is obvious. Thishas injected new momentum into the development of regionaltransport connectivity in Central Asia and the South Caucasus support of projects such as the Middle Corridor not onlywill boost political and economic relations within the region, butalso will support regional goals for connectivity, energydiversification, and long-term development,” he said.

The Middle Corridor is a transportation and trade route thatconnects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in theregion. It is an alternative route to the traditional NorthernCorridor and Southern Corridor.

The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countriessuch as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passesthrough the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye beforereaching Europe.

The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects theeastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing thelonger maritime routes.
