Russia Trying To Assimilate Wagner Group - British Intel


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) As of late October, large units of the Wagner Group have been assimilated into the command structure of the Russian Guard under the leadership of Pavel Prigozhin, the son of the group's founder Yevgeny Prigozhin, who died in a plane crash in August.

Wagner Group has resumed the recruitment campaign, the British Ministry of Defense reported on X , referring to intelligence data, as seen by Ukrinform.

It is noted that other groups of Wagner mercenaries have most likely joined another Russian“private military company”, Redut. According to an investigation by radio Free Europe, Redut now has 7,000 personnel in total.

On November 1, 2023, Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov said Wagner Group's medics had joined the ranks of the Chechen special operations unit Akhmat. Earlier, on October 25, 2023, Kadyrov claimed 170 former Wagner mercenaries had already become part of Akhmat, the intelligence update reads.

"The Russian state is now exercising more direct control of Wagner Group activities and former personnel following the mutiny in July 2023 and subsequent death Wagner's leadership in August 2023," the British defense ministry concluded.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, in its previous review, British intelligence said Russian authorities were doctoring history in order to strengthen anti-Western sentiments among ordinary Russians and intimidate neighboring nations.
