EU's Borell appreciates cease-fire agreement in Lebanon

(MENAFN) EU’s Josep Borrell commended a lately brokered cease-fire in Lebanon on Tuesday, labeling it a "relief in the devastating situation in the Middle East."

In a post published on the social media platform X, Borrell appreciated France as well as the US for their arbitration efforts in signing the deal.

"The agreement on a cease-fire in Lebanon is a relief in the devastating situation in the Middle East. I want to praise France and the US for their mediation," he posted.

He highlighted the significance of ensuring the cease-fire's durability to defend the lives of residents in Lebanon and Israel and to facilitate the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

"It is now crucial that the cease-fire holds," he further noted.

Borrell highlighted the serious demand for the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 (UNSCR 1701), which underscores measures for supporting peace and security over the Lebanon-Israel border.
