80-year-old shepherd die in wildfire in central Greece


(MENAFN) Regional broadcasters declared that wildfire that erupted in central Greece on Monday morning caused the death of an 80-year-old shepherd.

The corpse of the shepherd, who rushed to rescue his herd following getting an emergency SMS cautioning regional citizens of the fire over the town of Prodromos Viotias, was discovered by a different resident, a public broadcaster reported.

It further mentioned that the fire pushed two colonies in the region to be cleared.
In the meantime, the forest fire that blazed up early on Saturday in Greece’s northeastern district of Alexandroupolis carries on for the third day in a row.

12 communities were cleared by now, nine homes as well as one church were scorched, a news agency stated, further mentioned that thousands of lands of forest zone, cultivable land, in addition to a huge number of cattle and beehives deceased as well.

Furthermore, seven firefighters were moved to the hospital for respiring difficulties and injuries, it also stated.
