Russian air defense forces prevent drone raid on Moscow

(MENAFN) Air defense forces have taken down more than one hostile UAV aimed at Moscow, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin declared on Sunday morning, honoring the Defense Ministry for stopping yet a new tried “terrorist attack” on the Russian capital.

“At night, an attempt was made to fly a drone to Moscow from the southern direction. It was stopped by the air defense forces,” Sobyanin posted on Telegram at 4:34 AM regional time, without simplifying the precise place where the remote-controlled drone was stopped.

The Defense Ministry stated that the hostile UAV was spotted through the Stupino province of Moscow Region at around 4:00 AM. It was prevented by electric warfare and collided into an isolated zone, making no harms or wounds.

Moscow's southwestern as well as southern global airports, Vnukovo and Domodedovo, temporarily postponed flights as a protection at the time of the occurrence.

About the same time, several 450 kilometers south of the capital, a remote-controlled drone dropped on the top of the railway station in the town of Kursk, crushing some windows, leading to a small fire, as well as wounding over five people with wrecks of glass. It is still uncertain if Sunday morning's accidents were part of the same harmonized drone raid.
