Afghanistan Secures Gold At Taekwondo Championships

Ali Akbar Amiri, a distinguished member of Afghanistan's national taekwondo team, clinched the prestigious gold medal at the 2023 Chuncheon Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships.

Amiri clinched the top spot in the tournament's men's +87kg category by overcoming the challenge posed by Nigeria's Abdoul Issoufou.

His exceptional performance and victory underscored his dominance in the competition, highlighting his skill and determination on full display.

Issouffou's remarkable achievement at the 2016 Summer olympics earned him the silver medal, marking a historic milestone as the finest performance ever by a Nigerian athlete in the Olympic Games.

He has secured gold medals at numerous other significant tournaments, notably the World Taekwondo Championships, African Championships, and African Games.

Amiri from Afghanistan emerged victorious, triumphing over competitors from Canada, Kazakhstan, and South Korea in the highly competitive Chuncheon Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships.

This remarkable achievement marked the inaugural instance of an Afghan athlete securing the gold medal in this esteemed tournament.
