At Least 33 Dead, 18 Missing In Beijing Rainstorms


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, Aug 9 (KUNA) -- At least 33 people have died 18 others remain missing after heavy rains drenched Beijing recently, local authorities said Wednesday, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.
The death of the 33 people was mainly due to flooding and the collapse of houses, Xia Linmao, deputy mayor of Beijing, told a news conference.
From July 29 to August 2, Beijing was battered by severe torrential rains triggered by Typhoon Doksuri.
In addition, at least 10 people have been killed after heavy rain battered north China's Hebei Province, which neighbors Beijing, due to the impact of Typhoon Doksuri, Xinhua has said in a separate report. (end)
