Bagrami Camp Displaced Families Seek New Shelters


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Some families in the Bagrami district of Kabul province whose homes were destroyed by the Municipality lately asked the government and international organizations for support in getting new place for residing.

Hailing from different provinces, these displaced persons in the Alif Bagrami locality said after the destruction of their tents and houses they have no place for living and facing massive problems.

One of the representative of these displaced families, said around 280 families lived in this camp and currently most of them have no place for living. They rented homes in the same locality and up to 10 families are living in one house.

The Kabul Municipality last week in a statement said that around 50 acres of grabbed land had been retrieved and added:“A number of usurpers and opportunists, who had encroached on about 50 acres of government land in the Alif Bagrami under various pretexts, have been identified and operation to destroyed and cleaned some of their illegal settlement was carried out.”

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) than informed that acting officials forcefully displaced the residents of a camp and destroyed their residents and this led to the displacement of around 280 families.

Mohammad Naeem, 60, who lived in the camp from the past 11 years said the Municipality gave them 20 days ultimatum but they came ahead of the ultimatum destroyed tents and houses.

He said he lost his son was killed in the conflict and currently his another 13 year old son was suffering from blood cancer and every month he should get fresh blood.

Referring to his handcart, said daily he was unable to work for more than 50 afs, adding that moving ahead with life was difficult for him and even did not have the ability to 1,200 house rent that he should pay after the destruction of his tent in the camp.

Marzia, a widow, who live in the camp from the past nine years, said they every time received aid from different organisations when they were in the camp.

Referring to the destruction of the camp, she said they lost their valuables on that day and for some days they were without shelters.

She said some of the displaced people went back to their homes in provinces while more displaced families were now confused and without shelter, they live around the camp and rented a house where 10 families together live.

These displaced families have asked the government and foreign NGOs to provided immediate support to them and select a place for their residents.

The Ministry of Repatriation and Refugees could not reach for comments.

Kabul Municipality Spokesperson Niamatullah Barakzai told Pajhwok Afghan News they were committed to retrieve grabbed lands and pledged other places grabbed by would be also retrieved.

“Unfortunately, in government lands some people by the names of Kochies had resided which is against the urban laws and other principles, they caused hurdles in the way of the urban plan's implementation, thus the Municipality in line with the law have started the process to retrieve grabbed lands.”
