Nia Raids 7 Spots In Kashmir, Papers Devices Seized


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday conducted searches in four districts of the Kashmir Valley in a case related to NGO militant funding.

In a statement, a spokesperson said that extensive raids were conducted at seven locations in Srinagar, Budgam, Kupwara and Pulwama districts, at the premises of trusts and individuals associated with Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies (JKCCS), an NGO involved in raising funds for banned terrorist organisations.

The statement reads that raids were also conducted at locations associated with the NGO programme coordinator Khurram Parvej and his associate Irfan Mehraj.

“Both Parvez and Mehraj were arrested by the NIA in March this year after investigations revealed their role in raising funds for the JKCCS from various charities based abroad, and utilising these funds to foment trouble and terror in Jammu and Kashmir. Subsequent investigations revealed that the NGO and the two arrested accused were actively involved in instigating and funding stone-pelting in and organised manner in the Valley. They had been working with various banned terrorist organisations operating in Jammu & Kashmir,” it reads.

It reads that several digital devices and incriminating documents related to financial transactions were seized in today's searches in the case (RC-37/2020/NIA/DLI) registered suo moto by the NIA on 8th October 2020.

It added that the case relates to activities of certain NGOs, trusts, societies and organisations involved in collecting funds domestically and abroad, and transferring the same to separatist and terrorist organisations to sustain terrorist and secessionist activities in Kashmir.

“NIA had earlier conducted searches at 23 locations in this case in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and Bangalore,” it reads.


Militant's Property Attached In Kupwara

In a separate case, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday attached property of a militant operating from Pakistan in Kupwara district of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

“A land measuring 6 Kanals and 3 Marla belonging to one Adul Rashid Qureshi @Farooq Qureshi, a resident of Kachama, Kralpora Kupwara who is operating from Pakistan was attached by the SIU Kupwara following investigation of an FIR” reads a statement.

“Following extensive intelligence gathering and meticulous investigations in case FIR No.276/2022 of Police Station Kupwara registered under sections 120-B, 121, 121-A, 122, 123 IPC & 17, 18, 18-A, 18-B, 20, 38, 39, 40 of UA(P)A, the team of SIU Kupwara Police led to the identification and subsequent attachment of the militant property of land measuring 6 Kanals and 3 Marlas located at multiple locations within the district at village Kachama”, reads the statement.

“This measure taken by the Police aims to disrupt his illicit network and restrict his ability to carry out further acts of terror. It is pertinent to mention that Farooq Qureshi has been a persistent threat to peace and security of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir since the time he exfiltrated to Pakistan in early 1990s” reads the statement.

“He is a member of Al-Barq militant outfit and presently operating from PoJK as launching commander. Farooq's strategic involvement in numerous acts of militancy has caused immense suffering and loss of innocent lives in the valley in the past. Jammu and Kashmir Police has been actively pursuing his acts to bring an end to his destructive activities”, reads the statement.

“Police said the attachment of the property serves as a strong message to militants and their supporters that their actions will not go unnoticed or unpunished. It underscores the unwavering commitment of Jammu and Kashmir Police to combating militancy at its roots and dismantling its infrastructure”, reads the statement further.
