Iraqi, Jordanian Premiers Co-Chair Joint Committee


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, July 24 (KUNA) - The Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad al-Sudani and his Jordanian counterpart Bisher Khasawneh co-chaired Monday the meeting of the Iraqi-Jordanian joint committee which discussed political, economic and security cooperation files.
The two sides discussed the Palestinian issue and efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis, according to the meeting's final statement.
The conferees vowed to continue work and coordination to solve regional crises and restore security and stability.
They condemned the repeated burning the Holy Quran, an act that angered Muslims all over the world.
They called on states to respect sanctities of others and to shoulder their responsibilities in confronting abusive acts that fuel hatred and racism.
The meeting tackled efforts exerted to increase trade exchange, expand economic, trade and investment cooperation.
The conferees underlined the need to encourage private sector to contribute to trade exchange.
They reviewed the progress of work in the Iraqi-Jordanian economic city project and urged the company in charge to accelerate work execute the city according to the timetable.
They discussed the electrical interconnection project in its first phase (which will supply the Al-Rutba region on the Iraqi side with 132 kilovolts) and the second phase (which will supply the Al-Qaim city in Iraq 400 kilovolts).
The two parties discussed the latest developments regarding the extension of a pipeline to export Iraqi oil through Jordan's territory from the port of Aqaba. (end)
