Police Officer Killed By A Drunk Driver

Second Lieutenant Amir Martínez, 43, who served in the National Directorate of Transit Operations, was killed by a car while attending a traffic incident. The 25-year-old driver who had a blood alcohol level of 71, fled the scene but was captured Saturday soon after.

The event occurred at dawn, at Los Ruices, in the district of Las Palmas, f Veraguas. After the impact was transferred by ambulance to the Los Ruices health Center to the Veraguas regional hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Office of the Attorney General, through its official twitter account, reported that the Las Palmas Municipal Ombudsman is in charge of carrying out an investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident.

The Director General of the National Police, John Dornheim, together with the members of the Directorate, officers, classes, agents, and non-sworn personnel, expressed their deep sorrow for the death of Second Lieutenant Amir Martínez.

Dornheim highlighted the commitment and dedication of the officer, who lost his life fulfilling his duty to“Protect and Serve.”
