Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Austrian
Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Alexander
Schallenberg as part of a working visit to this country, trend reports citing
MFA.
The meeting discussed topical issues of the current agenda of
bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries,
as well as events taking place in the region and the world.
Minister Bayramov noted the bilateral cooperation between
Azerbaijan and Austria in the political, economic, cultural,
humanitarian fields and in the field of energy security. The
important role of mutual visits and contacts, political
consultations, parliamentary diplomacy in the development of
relations was emphasized. The presence of a wide potential for
economic cooperation between the two countries, including
investment, was also noted, the importance of continuing
multilateral relations, in particular cooperation within the OSCE
and the European Union, was emphasized.
Bayramov informed his counterpart in detail about the current
situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the process of
normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, work to
promote the peace agenda, current challenges and difficulties. In
this regard, it was stated that the failure of Armenia to fulfill
its obligations, its military-political provocations and the threat
of mines undermine the peace efforts.
Alexander Schallenberg noted that Austria attaches great
importance to the further expansion of relations with Azerbaijan,
and stressed that political consultations are one of the important
platforms for discussing the prospects for developing relations. It
was noted that the efforts to establish peace and security in the
region are supported by Austria.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the
meeting.
