Saudi Astronauts Experiment Space Kites With Students In Saudi Arabia

(MENAFN- Asdaf News) Saudi astronauts Rayyanah Barnawi and Ali Al-Qarni used a“space kite” to perform a second educational experiment with middle school pupils in Saudi Arabia via satellite from the International Space Station (ISS). The interaction aims to accomplish the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 in terms of developing cadres and fostering a culture of research, development, and innovation among students, while also fostering a new generation of Saudi leaders, explorers, and scientists.

The King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), Al-Riyadh and Misk schools, the Communication, Space and Technology Commission, the Ministry of Education, and the Saudi Space Commission collaborate to organise the educational experiments. Through this experiment, students had the opportunity to interact with the two astronauts, ask questions, and contrast the study findings from the astronauts' experience in a microgravity setting to those of the students on the ground.

Middle school pupils participated in an educational experiment on aerodynamics. It compared the aerodynamics of the“space kite” within the ISS, which has a microgravity environment, to what occurs on Earth in order to demonstrate how the behaviour is different in space as opposed to on the ground.

The activities aim to pique pupils' interest in maths, science, technology, and engineering. In order to strengthen the Kingdom's position in the development of the space sector and its standing in the international community with regard to space science research and investing that research in the service of humanity, they also aim to build human capital by luring talents and developing the necessary skills in this field.
