Kuwait, Canadian Fms Discuss Ties, Regional Developments


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, May 12 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Foreign Ministersheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, held Thursday talks with Canadian counterpart Melanie Joly on boosting bilateral ties and broaden coordination regarding regional and international issues of common interest.
The talks, during Sheikh Salem's current visit to Canada, focused on all aspects of the close historical relations that bind the two friendly countries and the efforts to strengthen and develop them at various levels to serve the common interests.
They also discussed intensifying joint coordination and cooperation on many regional and international issues and continuing joint efforts to maintain international peace and security.
Sheikh Salem Abdullah conveyed greetings of Kuwait's leadership, government and people to the Canadian leadership, government and people, and their wishes for continued growth, prosperity, progress and prosperity for Canada and its friendly people.
He lauded steady progress in cooperation between Kuwait and Canada at all levels, in particular in the humanitarian and development fields.
Kuwait's top diplomat appreciated the prominent role played by Canada and its armed military forces in Kuwait in preserving the security and safety of Kuwait and the countries of the region.
The two ministers reviewed regional and international developments including the security developments in Sudan, the international efforts to end the bloody conflict there.
They tackled the situation in Syria and Yemen as well as the continuous escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
They touched upon the developments in Ukraine and its repercussions at the regional and international levels, international endeavors to resolve the crises ravaging the region, humanitarian efforts in this framework and joint action to help preserve the world order, promote the values and principles of international law, and maintain international peace and security.
For her part, Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Joly expressed her country's thanks and gratitude for Kuwait's hosting of Canadian Armed Forces on its territory and for the facilities provided by the Kuwaiti government in this regard.
She spoke highly about the high level of cooperation between the two friendly countries, hoping it would expand two broader horizons.
The Canadian top diplomat admired the wisdom of the State of Kuwait and its balance foreign policy as well as its efforts to consolidate security and peace in the region.
She expressed appreciation for Kuwait's humanitarian endeavors and efforts to support development and help people around the world.
The bilateral talks culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding regarding the establishment of a bilateral political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries, which reflected the determination of the two countries to develop and consolidate bilateral relations in all fields and at various levels.
