Italy Evacuates Nationals, Foreigners From Sudan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ROME, April 24 (KUNA) -- Italian Foreign Ministry announced Monday evacuation of its nationals who wished to leave Sudan. The evacuees were taken in an air bridge to a military base in Djibouti in preparation for flight home this evening.
The foreign affairs ministry said in a statement the first phase of the evacuation from Sudan had been carried out with the transfer of 105 Italians and 31 foreigners, including Portuguese, Australian, Greek, British, and Swedish nationals, on board an Italian Air Force C130 and a Spanish Air Force AM400 to Djibouti.
The statement mentioned that nationals were assembled at the Italian ambassador's residence early Sunday morning and were taken to Wadi Seidna airport, 30 kilometers north of Khartoum, being the only viable exit. (end)
