(MENAFN) Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday that the country will officially grant Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant the nuclear facility status on April 27. This move is part of the government's efforts to expand its energy sector and reduce its reliance on imported energy sources. Erdogan also pledged to complete the construction of permanent houses in the regions affected by last month's earthquake, ensuring that the lives of the victims can return to normal.
During the Justice and Development (AK) Party's group meeting in parliament, Erdogan promised to share "good news" on April 20 during the ceremony of transporting Black Sea Gas to Filyos. He also announced that the country will showcase its many remarkable defense industry projects in April, including the domestically produced Hurjet jet trainer and light attack aircraft, and the TCG Anadolu, Türkiye's largest warship.
Erdogan expressed his excitement about hosting the executives of Türkiye's first indigenous electric vehicle brand, Togg, and said that he hopes to receive the first TOGG vehicle at the inauguration ceremony of the factory. The company has received over 177,000 pre-orders for the TOGG T10X, and pre-orders will be taken online from March 16-27, with deliveries starting in late March.
The TOGG T10X comes in both standard and long-range models, with prices ranging from 953,000 Turkish liras (about $50,200) to 1.215 million liras (about $64,000). The launch of the TOGG brand represents a significant step towards Türkiye's goal of developing a strong domestic automotive industry and reducing its dependence on imported vehicles.
The announcement of the nuclear facility status for Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant and the upcoming defense industry projects and electric vehicle production are part of Türkiye's broader efforts to modernize and diversify its economy. The government has made significant investments in infrastructure, energy, and technology, with the goal of becoming a leading global economy in the coming years.
