Embassy Calls On Qataris To Apply For Indonesian Arts And Culture Scholarship

Doha: The Embassy of Indonesia has called on young Qataris to apply for the Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship (IACS) 2023. The application deadline is March 27.

The programme is part of the Qatar-Indonesia Year of Culture which was formally launched early this month. The year-long programme under Qatar Museums is an international cultural exchange in Qatar that fosters greater understanding between nations and their people.

Ali Murtado, Head of Social and Cultural Affairs at the Indonesian Embassy in Qatar, told The Peninsula that the three-month scholarship initiative sought to promote and inspire greater awareness of Indonesian arts and culture, as well as to improve mutual understanding, friendship, and people-to-people collaboration on a global scale, and to foster future Friends of Indonesia.

Furthermore, he explained that selected individuals would be assigned to various parts of Indonesia, not just Bali and Jakarta. This year's scholarship period will run from June 1 to August 18 and will take place in five Indonesian provinces: West Sumatra, Jakarta, Bali, East Java, and East Kalimantan.

The scholarship covers international and domestic return tickets, accommodation, local transportation during orientation, health insurance, and a monthly allowance.

Requirements are: must be a Qatari citizen; should be single and between the ages of 21-30 years old as of April 3, 2023; candidate should has a good mental and physical health conditions (proven by a medical certificate); has a minimum of second dose of COVID-19 vaccine with certificate as a proof; has never participated in the IACS programme before; and has the ability to adapt and interact in a plural environment.

Since the launch of the IACS in 2003, the scholarship has been awarded to 1,024 alumni from 83 countries.

Foreign awardees for this year's scholarship will be limited to 32 persons. Overall, total number of participants is 36, apart from four Indonesian citizens.
