Qatar Chamber Discusses Trade Cooperation With Cuba, Gambia

Doha: Qatar Chamber First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Twar Al Kuwari met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and investment of the Republic of Cuba Deborah Rivas Saavedra.

The meeting touched on the economic and trade relations between Qatar and Cuba and the means to enhance them, strengthening cooperation between the private sector on both countries in various economic sectors and reviewing the investment climate and opportunities on both sides.

Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment of the Republic of Cuba praised the friendly relations between her country and Cuba, stressing the strong desire of her country to bolster relations in various economic and trade fields.

She also said that Cuba welcomes Qatari investments, calling on Qatari investors to invest in Cuba, which offers multiple opportunities in almost all sectors.

Saavedra invited Qatari businessmen and SMEs to take part in the Havana International Fair scheduled for next November.

On his part, Mohamed bin Twar lauded the cooperation relations between Qatar and Cuba and the common desire to develop them, especially in the trade and investment fields.

He stressed the Qatar Chamber's keenness to boost the relations between Qatari businessman and their counterparts from world countries, inviting the Cuban side to benefit from the incentives introduced by Qatar for foreign investors and the presence of a world-class infrastructure and leading economic legislation.

Separately, Mohamed bin Twar met with a board member of the Gambian Chamber of Commerce and Industry David Jeng and his accompanying delegation, to review enhancing trade and economic cooperation between both sides.

Speaking at the meeting, Mohamed bin Twar said that Qatar and Gambia enjoy distinctive relations and there is room for furthering cooperation, especially in the economic and trade aspects, noting that Qatari businessmen are eager to learn about the opportunities available in Gambia in sectors such as agriculture, services, oil and gas and mining.

During the meeting, participants assured the importance of activating the MOU signed between both chambers, which aims to promote cooperation between Qatari and Gambian businessmen and explore the investment opportunities available in both countries, stressing the importance of establishing a joint business council that brings together Qatari and Gambian businessmen to discuss the possibility to forge economic and trade partnerships and alliances.

On his part, David Jeng reviewed the investment environment in his country and the incentives offered by the country for foreign investors to attract investments in various sectors, the foremost of which is mining.
