UK police accuses teenager over violence outside immigrant hotel

(MENAFN) Following an anti-immigrant demonstration at a hotel sheltering asylum seekers on Sunday, when demonstrators threw fireworks and set a Police van on fire, United Kingdom police charged a teenager with violent disturbance and assault.

After making 15 arrests in connection with the fights on Friday evening in Knowsley, near Liverpool in northwest England, Merseyside Police claimed that they had accused 19-year-old Jarad Skeete with assaulting a medical professional.

According to police, the altercations started when troublemakers showed up at a scheduled protest by refugee support groups outside the hotel. They arrived as a record number of migrants are crossing the Channel in tiny boats to the United Kingdom.

Skeete, who is from a suburb of Liverpool, was remanded in jail and is going to appear in court on Monday, according to the police, while 14 other suspects were freed on conditional bail pending more investigation.

The far-right Patriotic Alternative demonstrated outside a hotel earlier last month, although the organization denied organizing the demonstration.
