India Stands In Solidary With Turkey People, Says PM Modi

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the lives lost in the earthquake in Turkey and stated that India is prepared to provide whatever support available to help Turkey cope with this tragedy.

“Anguished by the loss of lives and property damage due to the Earthquake in Turkey. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon,” he tweeted.

More than 4,300 people were killed in a massive earthquake that measured 7.8 on the Richter scale and ravaged a broad area close to the borders of Turkey and Syria, according to officials.

On Monday, one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the region in a century shook residents and reached neighbouring countries, Lebanon and Israel. The earthquake killed at least 2,921 and injured more than 15,800 people in Turkey, while 1,451 people died in Syria, according to Turkey's authorities.

India on Tuesday sent the first shipment of earthquake relief materials to earthquake-devastated Turkey on an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft, including a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) search and rescue team, dog squads, and medical supplies, tweeted Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson for Foreign Minister.

Today India's second humanitarian assistance and Disaster Relief shipment was sent to Turkey. India continues to support the people of Turkey in their hour of need.

Second IAF-MCCC-17 with self-contained NDRFHQ teams, including dog squads, search and rescue equipment, extrication tools and vehicles, leaves for Turkey. He said in a tweet that India continues to support the people of Turkey in their hour of need.
