Russian neighbor discloses amount of frozen holdings

(MENAFN) Approximately euro187 (USD203) million worth of Russian assets have been frozen by Finland as a result of penalties connected to the Ukraine, according to Pia Sarivaara, a spokesperson for the foreign ministry of that nation.

These assets, according to Sarivaara, include "various valuable property" owned by Russian people, namely real estate, stocks, automobiles, yachts, and aircraft. It added that “the Department for Debt Recovery deals with frozen assets in the country. At this time, the department has frozen assets in the amount of euro187 million euros.”

The restriction of Russian ownership has reportedly affected several dozen companies, but the precise number has not been disclosed, according to a recent report by the Finnish television station MTV Uutiset. According to media sources, the government froze the assets of many people, including a local branch of the Russian IT company Yandex, Roman Rotenberg's 22.5 percent stake in the Russian billionaire Gennady Timchenko's Helsinki Halli arena, and a local branch of the Finnish resort Langvik.
