(MENAFN) The S&P 500 ended with decreases Wednesday, losing all of its earnings in the last five weeks.
The index dropped 62.11 points, or 1.56 percent, to end standing at 3,928.86 -- its worst level since the 15th of December.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 613.89 points, or 1.81 percent, to close standing at 33,296.96.
The Nasdaq dropped 138.10 points, or 1.24 percent, to close the day reaching an amount of 10,957.01.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, climbed 5 percent to reach 20.34. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 4.6 percent to stand at 3.373 percent.
The dollar index was unaffected at 102.40, whereas the euro gained 0.06 percent to reach USD1.0795 versus the dollar.
Precious metals were on the red side, with gold dropping 0.2 percent to reach USD1,904 an ounce and silver declining 2 percent to stand at USD23.46.
Crude oil prices were decreased more than 1 percent, with global benchmark Brent crude declining 1.4 percent to USD84.69 a barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at USD79.55, a 1.1 percent fall.
