Dozens Shabab Militants Killed On Military Operation In Somalia


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- At least 25 elements of the militant Shabab group have been reportedly killed in a police-military operation being carried out in collaboration with 'international partners' in southeast Somalia.
The operation is still going on in Hawadley district, Middle Shabelle region, the Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported on Wednesday, citing local sources.
Other members of the group, associated with Al-Qaeda organization, fled the scene of the clashes, leaving behind quantities of munitions and military vehicles, according to the report.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced yesterday the resumption of a large-scale military operation to track down Al-Shabab militants in the southern parts of the country. (end)
