(MENAFN) The Turkish foreign Minister on Monday stated that Türkiye "works hard" to reinforce its relations with all African nations, highlighting, in specific, South Africa, his initial stop on a five-nation African trip.
"Today, we maintain strong ties with the descendants of Abu Bakr Effendi, who laid the foundation of our friendship with South Africa," according to Mevlut Cavusoglu at the appointment of a new chancellery establishment at the Turkish Consulate in Cape Town, South Africa.
Effendi was a noticeable Turkish scholar sent to South Africa in the 19th century by Sultan Abdul-Aziz Khan to send the message of Islam. The legacy of Effendi as well as additional Ottomans who came to be located in at the Cape can still be sensed following over 150 years via their writings.
Some Ottoman offspring are currently well-known in South Africa, between them judges, doctors, as well as politicians.
Mentioning that Turkey reaches out to its people across the whole world through its 257 missions, Cavusoglu asserted that the amount of Turkish foreign missions put it between the leading five globally.
