Qatar University Professor Bags Abdul Hameed Shoman Award

Doha: Qatar University (QU) faculty, Dr. Raed Al Gharabat, Professor of Marketing at the College of Business and Economics, has received the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers in business and economic sciences, on the subject of the impact of e-marketing in the business world.

The award, is the first Arab award acknowledging scientific research and celebrating the tremendous contributions of Arab researchers.

The Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, the arm of the Arab Bank for cultural and social responsibility, launched the Arab Researchers Award in 1982 aiming at supporting and encouraging scientific research in the Arab world. Further, the award is thought to contribute to preparing and inspiring a generation of Arab researchers, experts, and specialists in various scientific fields, considering the limited capabilities and resources of institutions, universities, and individual researchers.

Professor Al Gharbat's research is considered as one of the pioneering scientific outcomes in the field of digital marketing. Professor Al Gharbat is known for his tremendous contribution to solving fundamental issues of business enterprises; hence, the practical implications of his research in assisting enterprises to grow, prosper, and reach the competitive edge at the local and regional levels.

Recently, Professor Al Gharbat has been positioned amongst the top 2% of researchers in the world. This reflects the sobriety and quality of scientific research carried out by him. Professor Al Gharabat's research has been cited on the Google Scholar engine more than 3,000 times, providing authentic evidence on the strength and abundance of his research.

In her statement, Prof. Dr. Rana Sobh, Dean of the College of Business and Economics, stated:“The fact that one of the college's affiliates won this prestigious award reflects the college's efforts to support high-impact scientific research that not only contributes to the enrichment of scientific knowledge, but also contributes to providing practical solutions to problems. Such an outcome aligns with the priority in the business world, locally and regionally, to promote sustainable economic development in Qatar.”

For his part, Dr. Ibrahim Al Nawas, Head of the Department of Management and Marketing, stated:“I am happy and proud that one of the department's faculty members has received this award, which crowned the successes of Professor Al Gharabat, in recognition of his abundant and distinguished scientific production. His work added qualitative value and contributed to solving authentic problems in the field of digital marketing and its impact on the business world.”

It is worth noting that many winners of the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers achieved distinguished scientific achievements after receiving the award, and some of them assumed a prominent or public positions in their countries. This award is distinguished from the scientific appreciation awards granted in the Arab world, as it urges shedding light on scientific research and encouraging researcher towards finding practical solutions to authentic problems.

The Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers has been able, during its 40-year career, to enjoy objectivity and credibility among Arab researchers, along with gaining a good reputation in Arab academic circles.
