Tunisia surprises world with 1-0 victory over France in World Cup group D


(MENAFN) At the FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, Tunisia shocked already-qualified France 1-0, but they were unable to advance to the Round of 16.

Nader Ghandri of Tunisia scored in the eighth minute of the match at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, but the goal was disallowed because of offside.

In the 35th minute, France goaltender Steve Mandanda blocked a powerful shot from Wahbi Khazri.

Khazri attempted a long-range shot, but it went over the crossbar, leaving the first half scoreless.

Aissa Laidouni of Tunisia missed a shot in the 52nd minute, but Khazri scored in the 58th. Aissa Laidouni contributed an assist on the left footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom right corner.

French striker Kylian Mbappe's chance found the goalkeeper in its way in the 89th minute, whereas Antoine Griezmann scored one in the 98th minute, but the referee overruled the goal for due to the player being in an offside position following a decision from VAR, and the game was wrapped up 1-0.
