Berlin applauds Qatar's "super" 15-year LNG gas agreement

(MENAFN) The term of an agreement with Qatar regarding liquefied natural gas deliveries to Germany was welcomed on Tuesday and hailed as "super" by Germany's economics minister.

Robert Habeck added that the duration could have been a longer contract at a business conference in Berlin, "Fifteen years is great." He declared that Germany wants to achieve climate neutrality by 2045, referring to the 15-year term.

Habeck declined to comment on the specifics of the deal while he was in Qatar in March, citing the fact that it is a business matter.

The world's largest energy company, Qatar Energy, has reached an agreement on liquid gas deliveries to Germany, according to Saad Sharida al-Kaabi, the minister of energy for Qatar.

He claimed in the Qatari capital of Doha that the gas would be sold to the United States corporation Conoco Phillips, which would then ship it to the town of Brunsbüttel in northern Germany. The delivery process, which could involve up to 2 million tons per year, is expected to start in 2026 and last for at least 15 years.
