Hockey legend enraged as Russians get approved for Euro tour

(MENAFN) Dominik Hasek, the former Czech ice hockey hero widely regarded as one of the sport's greatest goaltenders, has reacted strongly when Russian players from two NHL clubs were authorized to play in the NFL's Global Series games in Prague on October 7 and 8.

The Czech authorities originally objected to Russian players participating in league games and public practice sessions in Prague this week, which are part of an NHL drive to broaden the league's reach into developing countries.

The Czech Foreign Ministry had even written to the NHL to say that Russian players would not be welcome, citing visa restrictions on Russians.

Yakov Trenin represents Nashville, while Alexander Barabanov represents San Jose. Evgeny Svechnikov, a third Russian player, is currently on trial with the Sharks.

“We’re a team, so if they say some guys can't go, either we all go or no one goes,” Grier stated last week.

“It’s not the players' fault. They didn't do anything wrong. I don't think they should be punished for it. We stand with them, and we're all together as one in here.”
