QU's Annual Research Forum And Exhibition To Start Oct. 3

Doha: Qatar University (QU) will on October 3 launch the Annual Research Forum and Exhibition 2022 activities, under the title 'Research, Innovation & Sustainability: Engaging Nations through Sports', with the participation of a number of researchers, experts, stakeholders, partners, institutions, and research centers. The forum will last for two days.

Organised under the auspices of ExxonMobil Qatar, this forum aims to demonstrate QU's research efforts in addressing the communitys challenges through research anchored on a vibrant partnership with industry and various other stakeholders. It will also highlight the important and award-winning research being conducted at QU that promotes QU's vision and supports the research priorities of Qatar and the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030. Through this, QU aims to achieve research-driven learning, discovery, and entrepreneurship.

This year's forum links sports, research, innovation, and sustainability, coinciding with the countrys hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, whilst the world is still witnessing the COVID-19 pandemic repercussions. This years forum will combine the advances in research and innovation despite the current health conditions during Covid and post-Covid, stressing as well on the sustainability issues related to the post-World Cup period, and working on optimizing the wellness and well-being of the community.

This year, participants focus on several axes, including the role of scientific research and innovation in achieving sustainability, with a focus on facing the most pressing challenges in the world, such as the role of sport in uniting nations, the sports industry, water security, industries, and innovations.

To discuss these themes, participants will hold on the first day of the forum, three discussion sessions attended by representatives from various academic, industrial, and government sectors, namely Research and Innovation in Sports and Beyond, Sustainability Strategy: Models from Industry and Sports, and Legacy and Sustainability in Security. 

The second day includes a number of seminars, including academia and industry on sustainability and the application of nanoparticles and algae technology in industrial wastewater treatment and reuse, presented by ExxonMobil Qatar.

According to the organisers, this year's exhibition will include the university's important research achievements, outputs, and activities and a special pavilion for research on Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in various research fields.

On the sidelines of the forum, a joint doctoral program agreement between QU and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) will be signed, and an applied industrial agreement with the Brazilian company Blue Reef. Additionally, faculty members, researchers, and university students will be honored and present a number of various research and postgraduate awards.
