Dealers Register Record Sale Of 200 ACs Daily
Srinagar – As the mercury is soaring in Kashmir, the cooling agents like Air Conditioners are no longer luxuries but necessities given its demand growing like hot cakes in the region.
In the last six days, Kashmir's top dealers have registered a record sale of 200 plus Air-Conditioners in a day per dealer.
The early summer has set the stage for high demand this year and local dealers believe that Kashmir is expected to witness bumper sales of air conditioners, coolers and other cooling gadgets in the coming days, if the mercury keeps on blistering.
“On an average, we're selling over 200 Air-Conditioners in one single day,” Adnan Baba, Director ALBA power private limited told Kashmir Observer.
“We procure ACs from four different companies including Blue Star. Since the rise in temperature, the demand has gone up. We are selling about 50-60 ACs per brand per day. So subsequently, for five brands the everyday sale is over 200 ACs.”
However, Baba immediately added that demand in AC buying had soared since the unprecedented Covid outbreak.
“In Kashmir ACs weren't always in demand. Only a few would buy it. However, when the Covid lockdown forced an indoor life, many Kashmiris who had returned home from other states, had opted for ACs,” Adnan said, adding that this year's massive demand is a first time situation for dealers.
“This year, we see higher demand led by the economic recovery and early summer. Since 2020, the AC market is going up year after year, and that trend has definitely increased at a massive rate this year,” Baba added.
Industry players also say that higher prices are clearly no deterrent to sales.“Even though prices have risen, demand is good,” says Yawar Yaseen, owner of M.YY dealers.“There has been strong retail demand in the past one week and I believe that Kashmir will see an unexpected AC sales this year, for the first time.”
He further added that the highest demand is for 1.5 ton hot & cold AC.“The basic rate starts from 30k[Base end] and goes upto 60K. However, in the initial days, people were going for the base end AC but now that demand has increased and the availability has decreased, everyone is buying the premier AC. We're selling over 200 ACs in a day,” Yawar told Kashmir Observer.
Besides this, the dealers also say that there's a surge in the demand for service of old Air conditioners.“Since mercury has risen, our fitters are literally finding ways to have lunch. We receive hundreds of daily calls for services of old ACs,” a dealer based in Srinagar told Kashmir Observer.
He further added,“Customers typically have a budget in mind when they walk into the showroom. So they buy whichever model suits their pocket. But, when they reach our showroom and experience the dearth of AC availability, they're ready to buy even the premier one which may cost at least 60k. By Allah's grace, this is for the first time in the past one decade that we've done a profitable business,” says the Srinagar dealer.
When asked about the average sale of ACs, he replied,“I sell at least 200 ACs every day including 100 high value ACs.”
Pertinently, the Industry players have also noted that due to the high demand in ACs, few companies have delayed their new consignment to Kashmir till September.“A top AC brand has directly informed us that they won't be able to ship our new consignment till September given the high demand of ACs in Kashmir,” Adnan Baba told Kashmir Observer.
According to a popular retailer of electronics in Srinagar's downtown, the huge demand in ACs has led to a shortage of the cooling gadget.
“The demand is so high that we're encountering a shortage of AC,” says Aijaz Ahmed, owner of Cute electronics.“We're also expecting an increase in the demand in the coming days.”
