Qatar's Private Sector Exports Rise By 46% To QR7.7Bn

Doha: Qatari private sector exports recorded a significant growth of 46 percent during the first quarter of 2022 with the total volume of exports reaching QR7.7bn, compared to QR5.3bn during the same period last year, further indicating the country's economic recovery, the Qatar Chamber said in its latest Quarterly Report and Certificates of Origin released yesterday.

The report added that Qatar's economic dynamics have been appropriately reclaimed, and market mechanisms have fairly regained dominance over economic activities and resulting revenues.

Qatari exports were received by 97 countries, of which 27 were African, 19 were Asian, 13 from the EU, 13 from Arab countries, 10 from Americas, 5 from GCC, 8 from the European Union, and finally USA and a single country (Australia) from Oceania.

During the first quarter of the year, Asian countries (excluding GCC and Arab countries) were the top destinations of Qatari private sector exports, as per the certificates of origin issued by the Chamber, receiving 50.4 percent of total exports valued at QR3.89bn. EU ranked in the second place receiving 24.2 percent of total exports valued at QR1.87bn. In third place, the GCC received 15.7 percent of total exports valued at QR1.21bn, followed by occupied Arab countries (excluding GCC) in fourth place, receiving 5.2 percent of total exports valued at QR402.4m.

The USA ranked in fifth place, receiving 2.8 percent of total Qatari exports valued at QR215.8m, followed in the sixth place by other European countries receiving exports valued at QR73.6m, representing 0.95 percent of total Qatari private sector exports.

African countries (excluding Arab countries) came in seventh place receiving QR53.3m, representing 0.69 percent of total exports, followed in the eighth place by other American countries receiving around QR6.4m, representing 0.08 percent. Oceania took the ninth place receiving around QR2.7m, representing 0/04 percent of total Qatari exports.

The QC report also showed increase in 6 out of 10 goods during the first quarter of 2021, with aluminium exports achieving the highest increase by 61.3 percent earning QR1.92bn compared to last year's QR1.19bn. Essential oils and industrials oils increased by 53.8 percent to QR1.76bn from QR1.14bn. Fuel exports surged to QR1.18bn, registering a 356 percent increase from last year's QR260m. 

While nitrogenous fertilisers grew by over 1000 percent to QR1.04bn from QR77.8m.

Lotrene exports also grew by 19.6 percent to QR376m from QR307m, while iron exports decreased by 32.8 percent to QR343m from QR510m. Chemical exports rose by 7 percent from QR315m to QR293, while petrochemicals grew by 22 percent from QR151m to QR184m.

Meanwhile, paraffin exports stood at QR175m, showing a 35 percent decrease from QR270m last year. Industrial gases exports reached QR129m, a decrease of 87 percent from QR991m.

These 10 goods were the top Qatari private sector exports, representing 96.5 percent of the total private sector exports, with a total value of QR7.4bn, and an increase of 41.8 percent.

India was Qatar's top business partner receiving exports valued at around QR1.79bn, representing 32.2 percent of total exports. 

Netherlands ranked second place receiving around QR1.2bn in its markets, representing 15.6 percent of total Qatari exports. Turkey ranked third place receiving exports valued at QR565m, representing 7.3 percent, followed in the fourth place by the Emirates receiving 7.2 percent of total exports valued at QR558m. Bangladesh ranked the fifth top trading partner receiving QR478m equivalent to 6.2 percent of total exports. While China ranked sixth place receiving QR395m equivalent to 5.1 percent, then Germany in the seventh place receiving QR338.5m equivalent to 4.4 percent.

The Sultanate of Oman came in eighth place receiving QR314.3m equivalent to 4.1 percent of total exports, followed by Hong Kong in ninth place receiving around QR251.6m equivalent to 3.3 percent of total exports. Finally, Indonesia ranked 10th place receiving QR217m equivalent to 2.8 percent.

These 10 countries received about 79.1 percent of Qatari exports valued at QR6.1bn during the first quarter of the year.
