Russia: Admission to NATO to not reinforce Finland, Sweden's safety

(MENAFN) Russia's deputy foreign minister stated that Finland and Sweden are not going to build up their security by becoming a member of NATO.

On the other hand, the general level of pressure in Europe is going to mount, Sergey Ryabkov updated journalists in Moscow.

Ryabkov also declared "They should have no illusions that we will just put up with this ... in Brussels, in Washington, and in other NATO capitals ... the overall level of military tension will increase, and there will be less predictability in this area."

The diplomat stated decisions are going to rely on "a practical outcome" of Finland and Sweden's admission to the military association, answering a question on any possible moves Russia may take to reply.

Ryabkov spoken regret that "common sense is being given up to some phantom ideas" on what have to be done in the recent situation, meaning the conflict amid Russia-Ukraine, which broke out 3 months ago.

He continued "This is another grave mistake with far-reaching consequences. But what to do, such is the level of those who make political decisions in the respective countries today."
