Doha: In support for the Eid festival and to ensure the continuity of pre-hospital care service during the holiday season, Hamad Medical Corporation's (HMC) Ambulance Service has deployed extra units consisting vehicle sand staff.

Extra units have been deployed to cover national Eid activities and at some important places, Assistant Executive Director of the Ambulance Service, Ali Darwish told The Peninsula yesterday.

“The first edition of Eid festival happening on the Corniche is a national event and we have dedicated number of ambulances in the area. These units will be in addition to the regular ambulances deployed in the area. In case of any emergency these dedicated units will be attending,” he said.

The Eid festival, which begins today, expected to draw a crowd of 10,000 to 15,000 daily until May 5. He said that during Eid holidays, the Ambulance Service will provide extra coverage at most visited areas and give access to effective care on a 24-hour basis. These areas include Katara, Souq Waqif, Aspire Park, beaches, malls, Hamad International Airport and Abu Samra border.

On the first day of Eid the Ambulance Service transported 270 people due to medical and trauma conditions yesterday. It included 43 cases due to trauma, 18 road accidents and three people were transported by Lifeflight (air-ambulances) for medical emergencies, according to Ali Darwish. He said that all cases were transferred to hospitals.

While the main PEC in Al Sadd received 369 905, PEC Al Rayyan received 403 and the PEC in Old Airport area received 209, and the PEC in Al Daayen received 89
cases.

The Emergency Department at Hamad General Hospital received approximately 365 cases

“Most of the cases were as a result of abdominal pains. This is as a result of consuming high saturated meals-fatty foods and carbohydrates. There were no severe cases. Most of the cases were treated and sent home,” said Dr Yousif Eltayeb Consultant Emergency Medicine at Hamad General Hospital.

“We recommend that people should avoid meals that are highly saturated with fatty foods and carbohydrates. Instead they should be replaced with proteins, fruits and vegetables to avoid symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and dyspepsia.

“We advise people if they are simple cases they should go to their health centres but they can go to the Emergency Department if their case is severe. We are also advising people with chronic diseases to take their medications the same time they were taking before Ramadan. They should follow-up with their specialist advice as an outpatient,” he added.

All emergency and inpatient services across HMC's network of hospitals operate as usual, 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
