A member of the national delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has stated that Azerbaijan strongly condemns any efforts to revive the OSCE Minsk Group, Azertag reported on April 27.

Kamal Jafarov made the remarks during a free debate held during the PACE spring session.

'We see that the majority of Armenian MPs refer to the OSCE Minsk Group. I want to say that we categorically reject the format of the OSCE Minsk Group and strongly condemn any initiative to revive it,' Jafarov stressed

He added that this is because the OSCE Minsk Group has had no success in resolving the conflict over the past 28 years as it was established to legitimize and perpetuate the Armenian occupation. As a result, Azerbaijan considers the OSCE Minsk Group's mandate to be de facto null and void.

The MP described the statements made by his Armenian counterparts on the first day of the PACE session as unconstructive, which undermine the positive peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

He reiterated that Azerbaijan has no administrative-territorial unit called 'Nagorno-Karabakh,' and that there is no Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, noting that the latest EU communiqué also does not use the terms 'Nagorno-Karabakh' or 'conflict'.

Jafarov underlined that following the Brussels meeting, the Armenian prime minister accepted the five principles put forward by Azerbaijan.

He noted that the current issue on the agenda is the normalization of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations and there are many positive changes in this regard.

One of these changes is the next telephone conversation between the Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers that took place on April 25. During the phone call the ministers agreed on the composition of the Joint Border Commission, Jafarov underlined.

Furthermore, it was agreed to hold meetings of the Joint Border Commission, as well as working groups to draft a peace agreement in the near future. The telephone conversation between the foreign ministers of the two countries is taking place for the first time in 30 years, he added.

'We believe that relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia should be regulated by the two countries. Those who wish to assist are welcome to do so, but we will not tolerate any non-constructive engagement in this situation. This is our stance,' the MP stressed.
