Iran-Afghan Border Reopens in Herat Province

(MENAFN- Khaama Press)

Ministry of Defense of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan announced on Sunday that the border crossing between Iran and Afghanistan reopened in the Islam Qala district of the western Herat province after tensions between the two sides.

The spokesperson of the Ministry Enayatullah Khwarazmi said the policy of the ministry was clear and that they are not careless about border issues with neighboring countries.

The border crossing between Iran and Afghanistan closed on Saturday after tensions between border guards of the two countries.

The Taliban purportedly wanted to construct a road in the border zone that was prevented by Iranian border guards and the Taliban have also seized a vehicle of Iran after crossing into Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Iran's special representative for Afghani Hassan Kazemi Qomi said that he has acknowledged the Defense Ministry of the IEA not to proceed with any construction at the border zone without prior coordination and that tensions should be resolved within the framework of the joint border committee.

This was the second conflict between Iran and Afghanistan's border guards since the Taliban's reemergence of the power.
