BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 18. Azerbaijani
businessmen are on a working visit to Jordan, the Azerbaijani Small
and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) told Trend .
The purpose of the visit, organized by SMBDA jointly with the
Azerbaijani embassy in Jordan, is to discuss the possibilities of
expanding ties between Azerbaijani and Jordanian businessmen and
the relevant structures of the two countries, implementing joint
business and investment projects, development of trade relations
and prospects for entering the Jordanian market.
The Azerbaijani delegation, headed by SMBDA Board Chairman
Orkhan Mammadov, includes representatives of relevant structures,
associations that support businesses in Azerbaijan, as well as
businessmen working in the sectors of agriculture, food, tourism,
healthcare, education and import-export operations.
On April 17, within the framework of visit to Jordan, Mammadov
met with the Minister of Investments of the country Khairy Amr.
At the meeting Mammadov informed the minister about the program
of the visit of the Azerbaijani delegation, consisting of small and
medium business representatives, and stressed the importance of
developing cooperation between the two countries in the areas of
trade and investment.
The agency's board chairman noted its readiness to support joint
cooperation platforms for the exchange of information on business
and investment initiatives, the organization of a business mission
of Jordanian businessmen to Azerbaijan and participation in
exhibitions in our country.
Mammadov added that SMBDA is also interested in cooperation with
the relevant structures of Jordan for the exchange of potential
investment projects and consideration of the possibilities of
creating joint ventures.
Amr shared his opinion on the opportunities for cooperation
between the businesses of the two countries and expressed support
for future joint initiatives.
At the meeting between Mammadov and the head of the Jordan
Chamber of Industry Fathi Jaghbir, an exchange of views took place
on trade relations and prospects for cooperation between
businessmen of the two countries.
During the meeting, Mammadov and Jaghbir signed a memorandum of
understanding covering such issues as the exchange of information
and experience in the field of entrepreneurship, the promotion of
contacts between businessmen, the organization of joint events and
meetings, mutual business missions.
On the same day, a Jordanian-Azerbaijani economic and investment
forum was held in Jordan's capital, Amman. The event was organized
by SMBDA jointly with the Jordanian Businessmen Association.
Mammadov informed the forum participants about the successful
economic reforms being carried out in Azerbaijan, the favorable
business and investment climate created for entrepreneurs, as well
as about the mechanisms for supporting small and medium
businesses.
Minister of Investments of Jordan Amr, President of this
country's Businessmen Association Hamdi Tabbaa, Ambassador of
Azerbaijan Eldar Salimov and Ambassador of Jordan Sami Asem Ghosheh
spoke about economic and trade relations between the two countries,
their business and investment potential, as well as opportunities
for joint cooperation.
Representatives of SMBDA, the Azerbaijan Export and Investment
Promotion Agency (AZPROMO), the National Confederation of
Entrepreneurs' Organizations, the Association of Pomegranate
Producers and Exporters, the Association of Food and Drink
Producers made presentations on the prospects for bilateral
cooperation at the event.
