Court remands Medvedchuk in custody


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Lviv's Lychakivsky District Court has chosen a measure of restraint for Viktor Medvedchuk in the form of remand in custody.

The court's press service reported this on its facebook page, Ukrinform reports

'Today, the investigating judge of the Lychakivsky District Court of Lviv granted the request of the investigator in particularly important cases of the main investigation department of the State Bureau of Investigation, approved by the prosecutor general, and chose a measure of restraint in the form of remand in custody for Ukrainian MP Viktor Volodymyrovych Medvedchuk,' the statement said.

According to the statement, Medvedchuk was served with a suspicion notice in committing criminal offenses under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 111 and Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

On February 27, it emerged that Medvedchuk, an MP from the Opposition Platform – For Life party suspected of treason and aiding the activities of a terrorist organization, had escaped from house arrest.

On March 18, an investigating judge granted the investigator's request that Medvedchuk be remanded in custody in his absence. On April 12, he was detained in a special operation conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

On April 13, Lviv's Lychakivsky District Court seized 154 assets of Medvedchuk and his wife, Oksana Marchenko.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed exchanging Medvedchuk for Ukrainian prisoners of war.
