As a Catholic feminist theologian, Dr. Annie Selak addresses the divergence between what the church teaches and the lived reality of the church in the United States. Racism and sexism threaten the ability of the church to truly be church, and Selak addresses these challenges in her forthcoming book, The Wounded Church (Fordham University Press). Dr. Selak argues that in order for the church to credibly be the church, it must address its own wounds first.
Dr. Selak aligns her theological research with her work with the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, where she teaches Feminist Theology. She earned her PhD in Systematic Theology from Boston College, with a minor in Christian Ethics. Her research focuses on feminist theology, ecclesiology, and power and authority in the Catholic church. She has 12 years of experience in Catholic higher education and specializes in supporting women and marginalized genders on campus.
Her work has appeared in the Washington Post, National Catholic Reporter, Commonweal, and America.
