CIFAL Doha UN training center opens at Lusail University

To build the capacity of government officials and civil society leaders and for empowering them to advance sustainable development, an international training center,'CIFAL Doha', opened yesterday. 

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Center (ROLACC) H E Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri and Head of the CIFAL Global Network Alex Mejia officially inaugurated CIFAL Doha in a ceremony held at the premises of Lusail University.

CIFAL Doha is joining as the 23rd center in the CIFAL Global Network, whose mission is to strengthen the capacity of government officials and civil society leaders, empowering them to advance sustainable development. 

CIFAL Doha will represent the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and will contribute to the advancement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. The center will also specialise in anticorruption and Sustainable Development. 

Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri and Alex Mejia signed an agreement for inaugurating the CIFAL Doha Center. Mejia presented Dr. Al Marri with a United Nations flag to commemorate this event. The flag was hosted in front of the CIFAL Doha Center. 

Speaking to the media, Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri said that CIFAL Doha center, first of its kind in Arab world, is a result of cooperation between ROLACC and United Nations.

“This center hosted by Lusail University will serve all Arab world and Middle East,” said Dr. Al Marri adding that part of a building of the varsity will be dedicated to the center.

He said that the center will provide training related to law, governance, anti-corruption and others giving priorities to most needed poor countries to curb corruption and open doors for sustainable development.

CIFAL Global Network is comprised of International Training Centers for Authorities and Leaders located across Asia, Oceania, Africa, Europe, the Americas, and the Caribbean, thus ensuring a global outreach.

The Network is coordinated by UNITAR's Social Development Program. UNITAR provides innovative learning solutions to individuals, organisations, and institutions to enhance global decision-making and support country-level action for shaping a better future.

Addressing the event, Dr. Al Marri said ROLACC in coordination with UNITAR in Geneva provided training to 2,744 trainees including ministers, judges, lawyers, senior police officials from all over the world during past two years which is a great job.“On worldwide, UNITAR provided training to about 48,000 people during past two years,” said Dr. Al Marri.

Addressing the same event, Alex Mejia said:“ROLACC trained over 2,700 government officials from over 20 countries during past two years which is an impressive number.” He lauded Qatar, ROLACC and Dr. Al Marri for their great role to support the mission of United Nations in this regard. 

ROLACC was inaugurated in 2011 in order to promote mutual cooperation and partnership building both locally and regionally, with an international mandate to spread awareness and knowledge of the policies and tools necessary to prevent and combat corruption. The Center promotes the permanent exchange of experience and expertise in the region through strategic partnerships with the relevant bodies of the United Nations, particularly the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the United Nations Institute of Training and Research.
