Events mark Qatar's openness to diverse cultures: Minister

The Ministry of Culture concluded yesterday the activities of Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021, which was hosted by the State of Qatar under the slogan 'Our Culture is Light', over the course of a year, under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and in cooperation with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science.

The Ministry of Culture organised a special celebration for this occasion, on the side-lines of the 31st Doha International Book Fair at Doha Exhi-bition and Convention Center (DECC), and in the presence of Minister of Culture, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, Director General of ICESCO, H E Dr. Salim bin Mohammed Al Malik, Minister of Culture of Jordan, H E Haifa Al Najjar and a number of Their Excellencies ambassadors accredited to the Country and guests of the ceremony.

Minister of Culture, said that he is pleased to conclude the activities of Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021, which witnessed a diverse cultural movement despite the exceptional health conditions experienced by the entire world.

The pivotal role of culture was emphasized, which confirms the close link between economic advancement and development on the one hand, and culture on the other hand, adding that countries rise and prosper civilly thanks to their cultures.

He pointed out the keenness of Doha events to translate the qualitative richness of Qatari culture in order to preserve the Islamic culture and enhance its presence in community with its openness to diverse cultures, as Qatar is home to more than 150 communities of different cultures, religions, languages and ethnic-ities, all of which contribute to the renaissance process.

The Minister indicated that the events contributed to achieving positive inter-action between intellectuals, creatives and cultural institutions, as it has succeeded in presenting a distinctive image of Qatar culture and civilizational heritage, from which Qatar national identity is nourished, adding that as much as the events worked to enhance cultural identity, it also sought to build bridges of communication with the cultures of Islamic peoples so that culture remains the epitome of rapprochement and coexistence.

Minister of Culture affirmed the continuation of efforts and giving, because culture is the safety valve of societies, stressing the importance of working to renew its components so that it remains a major role in building mankind and his civilization, just as the culture in the countries of the Islamic world over the centuries contributed to the enrichment of human civilization.

At the conclusion of his speech, the minister valued all the efforts made since the launch of the event until its conclusion, expressing his wishes for success for the upcoming capital's events.
