Acting minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Abdul Baqi Haqqani said that co-education in Afghanistan's universities along with economic woes is a major reason behind the closure of universities.

Abdul Baqi Haqqani said that they have to make separate classes for girls and hire extra lecturers that need more time and extra budget.

The acting minister of higher education who recently returned from Pakistan said that he was there on an official visit and discussed the problems of Afghan students with Pakistani officials and relevant administrations.

Haqqani also said that no country will be allowed to grant scholarships directly to people and that the scholarships will be managed through the ministry of higher education.

He had suggested building independent universities for Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

Abdul Baqi Haqqani said the OIC conference in Islamabad, election, and his treatment made his visit last more than the days initially planned.
