Srinagar: The Department of Geography, Government Degree College (GDC) Poonch organized a Geographical Model Making Competition on various themes of Physical Geography and Human Geography on December 10, 2021 for the students of B.A/B.Sc semester I.
In total, 11 teams participated in the competition, out of which, team Antarctica (Mohd Mustaqeem, Shazia Kouser, Binavreet Kour, Anjum Firdose and Shivali Bakshi) and team Anaximander (Kavleen Kour and Sobia Khursheed) secured first and second positions respectively, whereas team Ptolemy (Murtaza Mushtaq, Azahar Iqbal Choudhary, Rajneet Singh, Yaseen Abbas and Shubham Raina) and team Al Biruni (Jeevanjott Singh, Harshneet Singh, Ragav Raina and Tanishpreet Singh and Tanish Sudan) were ranked third by the jury.
All the team members will be receiving certificates for their participation and performance after the demonstration of their models, in the third week of December 2021.
“The model making competition is being organised from the last few years in the department to inculcate a deeper understanding of Geographical ideas among students,” said Dr. Mujahid Mughal, Assistant Professor of Geography.
“The competition seeks to establish an understanding of man-environment relationship, the core of Geographical enquiry.”
Ms Avneet Kour, another teacher from the department assisted students throughout the process.
Professor Khadam Hussain, HOD Geography and IQAC coordinator, GDC Poonch, after the evaluation of models appreciated the efforts of students and staff and urged them to continue such activities in future as well.
GDC Poonch is all set for NAAC review in a few months under the principalship of Prof Mussaraf Hussain Shah. The principal congratulated the Department of Geography and participants, for carrying on such academically important activities.
