The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) will open another vaccination centre for COVID-19 booster shots in Umm Salal area.

“We will open another vaccination centre in Umm Salal to provide third dose of COVID-19 vaccine to everyone free of cost,” said Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al Thani, Director of Public Health, MoPH.

Speaking in a Qatar TV programme yesterday, he said Qatar has been proactive in providing vaccines to citizens and expatriates alike.“The vaccination rate in the country has reached very high,” he said, urging people still unvaccinated against COVID-19 to take the vaccines as soon as possible. He said one year has passed since the start of the vaccination drive in Qatar, and no serious side effects have been shown.

Dr. Mohammed said apart from health centres operating across the country,“We opened dedicated vaccination centres at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) of Qatar Foundation, and at Labor City in Industrial Area.”

He said 27 health centres equipped with most advanced medial technology are operating across the country, offering COVID-19 vaccines and other medical services.

“The number of hospitals dedicated for COVID-19 patients also increased to deal with growing cases at that time. Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, the largest hospital in Arab countries dedicated for COVID-19 patients, was an added value to meet the emergency situation.”

MoPH has urged all those who had their second COVID-19 vaccine dose more than six months ago to get their booster short without delay.

In a video message, Dr. Soha Al Bayat, Head of Vaccination at MoPH, said Qatar's vaccination campaign has been one of the best worldwide, but the battle against COVID-19 is not over yet.

“We need to work together to ensure the safety of the community and this is why we urge all those who are eligible to do so as soon as possible,” Dr. Soha Al Bayat added.

Al Bayat also emphasised that scientific research on COVID-19 vaccine continues, and most recent clinical studies have shown that the immunity acquired from doses of the COVID-19 vaccine started to decrease and drop six month after taking the second dose.

This is why the authorities said that all those who took two doses six months ago are now eligible to take the booster dose.
