Doha: Thailand Embassy held a triple celebration yesterday as the country commemorated its National Day, birth anniversary of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, The Great and the Father's Day in Thailand, and the World Soil Day. The Royal Thai Embassy in Doha organised a ceremony to pay tribute to the late King Adulyadej.

In a statement, Ambassador of Thailand to Qatar, H E Nathapol Khantahiran said:“December 5th has always been a very important day for Thailand. It is the day on which Thai people commemorate the birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great whose 70-year reign came to pass in 2016. Despite the passing of the late King, this day remains our national day in honour of his long lasting legacy. King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great's dedication to the development of our nation has been recognized both within and beyond the border. The United Nations General Assembly declared December 5th the World Soil Day in acknowledgement of his lifelong work to improve soil condition, thus ensuring agricultural productivity, food security and ultimately sustainable development.”

Talking about the bilateral relations between Qatar and Thailand, Ambassador Khantahiran disclosed:“For over four decades, Thailand and Qatar have long enjoyed friendly and cordial relations. Our excellent bilateral relations have been manifested at many levels ranging from the royal family level, government-to-government level and people-to-people level. This paves a strong foundation for close ties between the two countries. This is the reason why Qatar and Thailand has set up a mechanism of Political Consultations and High-Level Joint Commission as a framework to discuss our cooperation, not only for bilateral relations, but also international issues where Qatar and Thailand could help each other to solve global challenges and promote mutual prosperity.”

Thailand is a country of agriculture-based economy and the second largest rice exporter in 2021 according to the country's Ministry of Commerce. Moreover, the Ambassador disclosed that his country is likewise developing itself to be the world's major food producers and exporters.“Thailand has worked continuously to eradicate poverty and elevate people's well-being through sustainable development goals as appeared in the United Nations' framework.

In this regard, we praise the role of Qatar in the same manner, which shows remarkable contribution on many international issues: humanitarian assistance, sustainable development, environment awareness and preservation, and recently the conflict solution process or peace-making in Afghanistan issue.”

Ambassador Khantahiran along with the Thai community in Qatar also extended their heartfelt gratitude to His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar, the Government of the State of Qatar, and Qatari friends in the promotion of their two countries' relations.“I am sure that, with the existing bonds of friendship between Thailand and Qatar and with the goals and excellence that the two countries have achieved, we shall successfully turn any crisis to opportunities by strengthening more ties and deepen our cooperation in all aspects,” he said.
