São Paulo – Brazil-based startup Nubank announced on Thursday (18) it will be an official supporter in South America for the 2022 World Cup Qatar. The country will be the first Middle East country to ever host the world's largest football event.

With this, the company will be able to give access to game tickets to its customers and present a series of exclusive actions and content over the next year. According to the fintech, by 2019 the company had received eight investment rounds and two more extensions, which are major financial contributions.

In a statement, the company said that supporting this competition is an opportunity to get even closer to our customers.“Football has, unlike any other sport, the power to unite people around the world, but especially so in South America. We want to be part of this moment and contribute so that everyone in our region can experience the thrill of a new FIFA World Cup, where we will have many reasons to celebrate,” Arturo Nuñez, Nubank's Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) was quoted as saying.

Nubank was founded in Brazil in May 2013 by Colombia's David Vélez, United States' Edward Wibble, and Brazil's Cristina Junqueira. In Brazil the brand has over 48 million clients. The fintech now operates in Mexico and Colombia, too.

The international competition is organized by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). Due to weather issues, it will also be the first time that the competition takes place later in the year, from November 21 through December 18.
