Egypt creates committee to expand trade with Africa

Cairo – The Ministerial Committee for the Development of Egyptian Exports to African Countries held its first meeting (pictured above) this week, chaired by the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hala El-Saeed.
The meeting was also attended by the ministers of Justice, Omar Marwan; Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir; Public Business Sector, Hesham Tawfik; Agriculture and Land Reclamation, El Sayed El Qusayr; Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs, Hamdi Loza; Director of the Center for Information and Support for Decision Making at the Council of Ministers, Osama El-Gohary; economic advisor to the prime minister, Jihan Saleh; as well as representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Egyptian Federation of Industries, Export Councils, the Central Bank, and several private banks, in addition to experts.
Hala El-Saeed spoke about the creation of the committee and the most important tasks assigned to it, bearing in mind the determination of the Egyptian government to strengthen cooperation with African countries, increase trade exchange with the region and double the volume of exports until 2025.
The advisor to the minister of Planning, Mohamed Fathi Saqr, presented a detailed study on the current situation and proposed a plan to increase trade with African countries. He explained existing challenges and opportunities, according to the assessment, and suggested an action plan. Participants agreed to study the proposed work plan and establish operational steps for each ministry and body represented in the committee in preparation for presentation to Prime Minister Mostafa Kamal Madbouly.
